Reading Strategies for Career Academies and Career-Technical Education

Reading Strategies for Career Academies and Career-Technical Education provides a broad selection of the best research-based and classroom-tested comprehension strategies, applicable and adaptable for all students in all courses.

Most teachers are not trained as reading teachers. Yet, many secondary students cannot understand the materials they must read in order to learn in their classrooms. Teachers can help students overcome this primary obstacle in their education by:

showing them how to approach a textbook so they understand and remember it better
helping them grasp the full meaning of their researched materials
teaching them strategies that successful readers use to comprehend the text.
