Boosting Achievement Through Content Area Reading Instruction
This workshop introduces strategies and techniques for teaching reading and writing in the content areas. The training, designed for administrators, school leaders, and teachers at the middle and high school level, is designed to help participants simultaneously improve academic performance within the content areas and increase reading comprehension levels for all students. Literacy training will assist teachers in preparing students for the academic challenges they face today and the demanding and uncertain future of the workplace that lies ahead. Overviews of International Center literacy resource kits, Strategic Reading in the Content Area — Boosting Achievement in Grades 7-12 and Leading with Reading in Grades 7-12, are used to stress the importance of reading and writing skills. The Lexile Framework® also is introduced as a standard readability measure.
