Leadership for Rigor, Relevance and Relationships

The growing enthusiasm for the new 3 Rs is a result of wide recognition that a commitment to rigor, relevance, and relationships is an effective approach to school improvement that challenges students to stretch their learning and develop personal skills as well as fostering improved engagement. The International Center is known for its Rigor/Relevance Framework, which is used in planning instruction and assessment. This session will describe the leadership tasks and approaches necessary to develop a school culture that embraces rigor and relevance and that builds relationships between students and adults and among the students themselves, all of which are essential to support learning at high levels.

Making Plans that “Stick”

The nation’s highest-performing schools realize that maintaining success is an ongoing process because student needs, community demographics, state requirements, and college and work-ready skills are continually changing.  The schools utilize a needs assessment and planning process that causes them to monitor and reflect on student learning and performance continually.  A needs assessment can reinvigorate the reform process and help school leaders to confront new and emerging challenges and explore potential solutions and successful practices from around the country.  This session will describe strategies for continual school improvement.

A District’s Journey to Excellence

This unique presentation will provide an inside account of how one of the nation’s largest school districts made significant gains in student achievement and school performance over a ten year period to become a shining example of success. The session will also show participants how to form partnerships to help students meet grade level expectations and support schools in closing achievement gaps. The formula is a blend of business and education principles with quality leadership.
